After leading large teams, you learn that more people do not always mean more capacity.

They also mean more coordination, more waiting points, and more context that can be lost between a decision and its execution.

Today I see small teams produce results that would once have required many more hands.

AI explains part of it.

But not all of it.

A compact team works when each person knows what they decide, what they deliver, and what they must verify before handing work over.

When the architecture prevents everyone from needing to understand everything.

When repeatable tasks are automated.

And when human judgment is focused on the points where a bad decision costs more.

The advantage is not doing the same work with fewer people.

It is removing work that never required a person and giving the team time to think again.

AI can expand capacity.

Team design determines whether that capacity becomes results or simply more things to coordinate.
