This pattern existed long before artificial intelligence.
A company buys a CRM and the team continues managing customers in personal spreadsheets.
It buys collaboration tools and decisions remain lost in private conversations.
It migrates to the cloud and preserves exactly the same operational problems.
Then it asks why the technology did not produce the promised transformation.
Buying changes the inventory.
Adoption changes how people work.
That happens when someone redesigns how work is requested, who reviews it, which steps disappear, and how the result is measured.
It also happens when the team understands which problem the tool was supposed to solve.
The same thing is happening with AI.
Having licenses does not make a company AI-first.
It only means the company has paid the admission price.
