I asked a business owner how much artificial intelligence his team was using.
He told me:
None yet.
His team had been using it for eight months.
Every day.
They were not hiding it out of malice. No one had simply told them what was allowed.
And that was the problem.
He did not know what they were using it for.
Which code had come from where.
What information was being pasted into a chat.
Which decisions a person was making and which ones they were delegating.
He did not even know whether they were actually moving faster or simply producing more disorder.
The discussion about whether a company should adopt artificial intelligence is arriving a little late.
In many companies, the decision has already been made.
Without anyone making it.
